There are areas that are considered to be at a level of risk so serious that IMMEDIATE ACTION is required in areas between Chalkwell Esplanade and Shoeburyness.

Long story short, it seems that a tidal surge has the potential to cause serious damage to property, and so the official advice is to try and use sandbags etc. to protect homes and businesses as best you can.

This is indeed a real news item, and we’re only publishing it because we have loads of readers in the affected area – if you let water knock out your broadband then you can’t read Southend News Network, which will suck.

Also, if someone could try and protect John Bulley and Mark Sharp’s magnificent Princess Leia mural by the Premier Inn that would be super. We don’t know if he used waterproof paint …

FOR THE LATEST UPDATES ABOUT THE FLOOD WARNINGS, WE SUGGEST READING ANYTHING EXCEPT THE ECHO SITE AS THE SAFETY INFORMATION WILL PROBABLY BE HIDDEN UNDERNEATH A SURVEY.

The links above should be a good start, and there is always BBC Essex, Essex Live etc. Your Southend have said that they will be providing regular updates too.

As the late, great Leslie Nielsen would say …

If this doesn’t make Southend Borough Council and Anglian Water sort out the poxy drainage, we don’t know what will!
