Tourism bosses in Southend have admitted that they are ‘incredibly excited’ after announcing that there will be a 4-DAY AIRSHOW in June 2017. After years of uncertainty and disappointment, the all-new aerial spectacular is due to take place just a few miles up the road in Great Yarmouth, and Southend’s hotels and guest houses have been told to get ready for the huge number of visitors that the event will bring into the region. According to one source within the Southend Tourism Consortium Partnership, Southend will be the perfect base to visit the Suffolk-based airshow because the action will only be a brief two-hour drive away.

STCP boss Terence Strawclutch said: ‘This is fantastic news for Southend On Sea. Residents and business owners have been crying out for the Airshow to return, and we can now congratulate ourselves for making this happen. Southend is the perfect base for anyone who wants to watch the action in Great Yarmouth as the main event will be just a short drive away along the A127, A130 and A12. Alternatively, visitors will be able to leave the car behind and take the train – this will allow them to take in the sights of historic Norwich too! Once the aerial action is finished on each day, visitors and locals alike will be able to take a stroll along the pier as we won’t need to close it for the first time ever during an airshow, and there may even be trains available as well!’

The news has also been greeted with delight by a number of Southend-based tourism businesses. Seafront gift shop owner Barry Mouthpiece said: ‘Once again, the people in charge of Southend’s affairs have come through and delivered when it really matters. Local councillors have always been concerned about the policing costs that come with an airshow, but by holding it in a different county these should be kept to an absolute minimum. We have also been told that the upcoming Clacton Airshow will bring a huge amount of tourism revenue to Southend, and I can safely say that there are some very exciting times ahead for every Southend business owner.’
