A 23-year-old mum of three from Southend has been describing her ordeal to Southend News Network after she was on the High Street with her children and spotted a man who looked ‘a bit foreign.’

Michelle Garridge told our Chief Reporter that although it might have been nothing, it could have just as easily been something.

She added: ‘I walked out of McDonalds with Jet, Essoh and BeePee, when all of a sudden I noticed someone who looked a bit foreign walking on the other side of the pedestrianised area.’

‘He must have been around 20 or 50 years old, and I heard him talking into a mobile phone in a language that wasn’t English – that’s when I got worried.’

‘I took multiple photos of him and shared them on Facebook straight away just to be safe.’

‘It might have been nothing, but it could also be something and that’s why I thought it would be better to just share it anyway so that everyone can be aware of this gentleman who may or may not be a threat to the general public.’

The post has now been shared more than 5,000 times in three hours on Facebook, and there is a large amount of anxiety in the community.

A poster called Jemima Minge commented: ‘I’m disgusted by this. I’m a mum of two myself and although I don’t live in Southend, I use a similar High Street all the time in Scunthorpe.’

‘He looks Afghan or possibly Chinese babe – hope your OK. This is why I voted for Brexit. Shared Hun xxxx.’
