Welcome to Southend News Network’s live page with the very latest information about schools in the borough of Southend that are closed due to today’s heavy fog.
A number of local schools have already announced that they will be closed today (Monday 2nd November) as Health and Safety officials have declared that there is a ‘serious risk’ of the fog moving indoors into classrooms and other vital education delivery areas. Thorpe Hawkwell Primary School have already shut their doors for their day, with headteacher Robert Inset telling our reporters that in some classrooms the whiteboards can only be seen from 5cm away.
Westcliff parent of three Anne-Marie Slocombe-Barnes Barnes, 34, told us that she agrees with the decision to close her kids’ school, even though it will cause serious disruption to her day. She said, ‘Having the kids at home will be a real pain today, but while there is a risk of the fog moving indoors it is understandable. My friend told me that things are so bad in her office today that five colleagues have already fallen out of windows, and imagine what Ofsted would say if that happened in a school.’
Local government officials have confirmed EXCLUSIVELY to Southend News Network that their network of fog blowing trucks will not be out on the roads today because of low visibility, due to the fog.
