On Thursday evening, we were given a photo that someone had taken of a salon street sign saying that they offer a ‘£30 full body massage including head’ – this could be either a poor choice of wording or a deliberate attempt to create a catching advertisement. Therefore, in the spirit of Southend News Network’s usual activity, we shared the picture for your enjoyment.

At the time of making this statement, the image has reached just short of 250,000 people on Facebook, and unfortunately this has led to the following developing situation.

On Friday morning, we were contacted by the current owner of Eleven Hairdressing – the company in Codsall, Wolverhampton that created the sign. The owner informed us that they have been receiving an unprecedented number of nuisance calls from people who are clearly amused by the advertisement, people who were described as ‘dirty old men.’

At this point, Southend News Network made it perfectly clear that we would not be removing the image from Facebook as it was taken in a public place. Furthermore, the telephone number printed on the sign is publically-available information.

However, we agreed to put out a statement to make it known that Southend News Network strongly discourages people from making nuisance phone calls to this company, or indeed any other company for that matter. At the same time, Southend News Network can take no responsibility for any actions taken by members of the public using information that is available freely online.
