Police and social services have launched an investigation in Canewdon, a small village in South Essex, after a local baby was born with seven fingers on each foot.

According to a police statement, preliminary evidence shows that the newborn may also be his own nephew, grandfather and third cousin.

A source added: ‘It is disappointing that this is still happening in Canewdon after a community outreach team has spent a great deal of time in the area trying to promote the dangers of inter-familial relationships.’

’In particular, their recent Beyond The Home Roadshow was attended by more than 500 people in the village hall.’

A neighbour said: ‘I went to the 20 week scan and that’s when I knew something was up.’

’I’ve never seen a monobrow show up on an ultrasound before.’
