Tributes have been flooding in from all corners of the showbiz world after the tragic news emerged that Peppa Pig was killed in a boating accident earlier this morning.
According to a statement released by the family, a trip on Grandpa Pig’s boat ended in tragedy after the vessel got into difficulties while sailing along the Thames Estuary towards London.
A distress call was received by the coastguard to say that visibility was ‘practically zero’ within the so-called Caution Zone – this is the area of water that includes the 1.33-mile long Southend Pier and the explosive wreck of the SS Montgomery.
A few moments later, the local RNLI station reported that a boat had collided with the pier head close to the cultural centre – this was remarkable given that the tide was reportedly out at the time.
All of the boat’s occupants were rescued and taken to safety, including Grandpa Pig, Grandma Pig, Peppa Pig, George Pig, and their guests The Twirlywoos.
Shortly after being taken into the cultural centre to keep warm, Peppa fell over a ‘Caution Wet Floor’ sign, flew into the café kitchen and ended up in a deep fat fryer.
The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
A spokesperson for Southend Borough Council said: ‘With great pier, comes great responsibility.’
He added: ‘We have the longest pleasure pier in the world. That’s like the whole planet. It has a train as well. Sometimes.’
